Re: Lightweight Battery

That's the same battery I bought at AirVenture. I modified my existing Odyssey battery box to handle the different shape and dimensions but still use the same firewall piano hinges. Charged and installed it back in Sept. I've started the plane several times with it, never ran long enough to recharge...

Waiex N116YX first

N116YX moved under its own power today. I taxied to the end of the hangars did a beautiful 180 and taxied back. All systems green except the damn radio which was working fine last year when I last tested it.
Getting real close to my DAR inspection.

Re: New Italian Bolt-on LSA Engine ICP M09

I have long wondered why motorcycle engines have never really taken hold in the aviation world. I like this design but it looks like significant modifications to the airbox would be necessary to get it to fit the Sonex. Could be a good fit on a Onex. Unless you could reroute it away from the fuel fi...

Re: Selling My Sonex Project

Boy those demons keep circling. I quit flying myself 6 months ago to focus on finishing the waiex. Now I am close to getting ready for the inspection and first flight. I need to do my BFR soon and will probably do an intensive session with the instructor to not only cover my BFR but also run through...

Re: Viking Engine

Jan is posting performance results from a single implementation of Viking engine on a Sonex airframe. And he's promoting those results as what you should expect if you install his Viking on your Sonex. I don't begrudge his success with the Sonex, but he needs at least a few more installations before...

Re: Aveo wingtips

Those aveo tips look nice.
However, I went with these.
http://www.gaugepods.com/aircraft.html
Its a vacuum formed plastic that bolt onto the stock sonex tips. They came out nice. and cheap.

Re: Ordering Drill Bits

I'm almost done drilling now, but during the height of my build, I always found myself throwing in a couple of #30 bits in my bi-weekly ACS or Wicks order. for the #40, I just used the cheap Harbor Freight titanium coated 3/32 bits you get in a ten pack for $2. You will updrill those anyways for riv...

Re: Revmaster R-2300

That's funny. At AirVenture during one of the air shows, I was admiring the Sonex install of the Viking. Nobody from Viking was around. It had a display rack with brochures on it. Two guys came up, grabbed one, scanned it. Looked straight at me and said "Eggenfellner!, run away! fast!" His...

Re: Revmaster R-2300

So Rizzz, the Viking is off the table now? I still have my $1,000 deposit with him. He seems to be maintaining some customer base and has one successful Sonex install. I might just consider it when I build my Onex after I finish my Waiex. He damn sure better honor my deposit when I call him up in 2 ...
