Re: Aerocarb/Aeroinjector discussions

My impression of the burp tube was just a relief vent right before the carb. Not much chance of trapping vapor especially at higher fuel rates. My idea is an expansion chamber to allow the gases to gather at the top while liquid keeps feeding the carb. Without the expansion, the gasses could still g...

Re: Plane crash video - Density Altitude

I didn't realize how hot it was. The engine sounded fine and the pilot didn't look like he was trying to make any adjustments. A slight downdraft could have been the just the thing to put it into the trees. Kinda reminded me of trying to do touch and goes in my C150 with a DA of 8500ft. Used a lot o...

Re: Plane crash video - Density Altitude

Do you think it all about DA or was the engine just not running right? I though with the long takeoff run I would have aborted take off while I still had runway. After he broke ground, can't say I wouldnt do anything differently. Probably saved everyone's life but not trying to turn back and spinnin...

Re: Aerocarb/Aeroinjector discussions

Seems to me the proper solution would be to add a bowl/expansion chamber just in front of the aerocarb. This would be a fitting attached to the fuel input of the aerocarb that would be cylindrical and say 2 inches in diameter holding a couple ounces of fuel, with the low point at the carb, the high ...

Re: Home-made Tiedowns

I talked to the vendor at Airventure selling the design you used. He had a really good design but wanted $70 for his kit. I guess he didn't realize that us home builders could do the same thing for $10 with spare material from our kits and a trip to Home Depot. Or like you said, was marketing to the...

Re: Need horizontal split cowl information

Here's my advice. Don't do it. I'm pretty good with fiberglass and did the tape join vertically and then the cut horizonally. Got it real nice, but couldn't get the fasteners to effectively work properly and get a nice joint. Even tried piano hinge, and it was more work to take the damn thing off th...

Re: How does the Sonex hold up in the rain?

When I had a C150, I kept it tied down outside. After heavy snows, I'd go out and broom off the snow and let the sun melt the ice. then when I'd hold down the tail, water would come out the fuse at the tail. Never had an issue with corrosion on any annual inspection. but even production aircraft tak...

Re: How does the Sonex hold up in the rain?

Most of the Sonex tied up overnight at OSH had canopy covers. I think an uncovered canopy would leak pretty bad on the front and back edge of the canopy into the cabin, possibly onto the panel which would not be good. I'm making or buying a canopy cover just for such situations.

Re: Viking Engine

I had met Jerry last year at AirVenture. Very nice guy.
Looks like its not a Viking issue, but fuel starvation. The final NTSB report will tell us.

Kipp, it was great talking to you at OSH. Learned a lot of tricks to do to my Waiex. Hope to join you next year flying my plane there.
