Re: Gases passing through pulled rivets

I also bought one of those small CO detectors at Walmart. I am hoping to use a co detector connected to my onboard computer eventually but have the portable unit if I don't get er done in time to fly. I know someone who was killed by CO in the cabin of an airplane, so nothing to play around with in...

Re: B-Model conversion

Soaring season is coming to an end but we are getting some gold metal days lately. Here's a clip from today's trip into Tiger Country. We rarely dropped below 16,000ft and did 600km in 5.5 hours. This was a Duo Discus with a national champion coaching me from the back seat. https://www.youtube.com/...

Re: B-Model conversion

Been getting a little sidetracked and distracted lately. I did put in my autopilot control rods this morning. I've been towing for the glider club every Friday and flying at least one of the other weekend days in a club plane. Soaring season is coming to an end but we are getting some gold metal day...

Re: iPad instrument panel

This is really good news. I have an iPad mount in my panel and was only using for navigation. This might extend my MGL to provide full EFIS. Or replace it!

Re: Exhaust Heat Containment

My stainless headers have been wrapped for 400 + hours, no issue. My new b model will have mild steel wrapped tail pipes below the headers. I just can’t see how they would be more susceptible to corrosion. We’ll see.

Re: Share your cross country mis-adventures with us!

I'll share. We landed in Reedsburg, WI on the first stop back from OSH. I went to hook up the grounding wire to the exhaust pipe and found it missing. Your exhaust was missing!? Oh the story is just starting. So there is no exhaust pipe, and Gary says, damn, a couple of other UL Power guys had lost...

Re: Share your cross country mis-adventures with us!

Hi guys, John, Gary and I are planning to do a podcast on how to handle unforeseen issues, break-downs, challenges or general mis-adventures while flying out of your local area and on the road. I'd love to get some of your stories to add to the topic. The goal here will be to offer some strategies ...

Re: Improbable Turns

To simulate an impossible turn that kills, go high, simulate a takeoff and pull the throttle, then do a panic 90 degree bank turn and pull through with the stick 180 degrees. I bet she will spin as you come out of the turn. Yeah, in slow flight it does take some cross control to get her to spin and ...

Re: Improbable Turns

In the soaring world, we are taught you can do the turn 200ft AGL in the event of a rope break. And we do practice it. A glider will only lose about 50ft in the turn if properly executed. 45 degree bank, coordinated turn, turn into the wind, pitch for best L/D. Once the field is made, then slip or s...
