Re: Question on 40 hour requirements being partially flown

Everyone is offering spot on advice. The original Operating Limitations will specify the Phase 1 test area the airplane must be operated under for Phase 1 so if you want to relocate to a different area, you will need to contact your local FSDO for amended Operating Limitations to include a new test ...

Re: insurance roundtable

I just renewed my insurance through Global:

$40,000 hull value and my airplane has been flying for 9 years and 350 hours now.

No change in premiums going from AeroVee to Jabiru 3300

I have fairly high qualifications (ATP, CFII/MEI)

This years premium is $925. Up around $125 from last year.

Re: MGL RDAC RPM connection to Jabiru 3300

Hi Rick, thank you for responding. Do you remember which sensor you used? I assume you mounted it to the point next to the flywheel?

I used an alternator output that plugs into the voltage regulator and it’s reliable most of the time; there’s just an RPM range where there’s an error.

Thank you!

MGL RDAC RPM connection to Jabiru 3300

For those who have connected a Jabiru 3300 to an MGL RDAC, Im curious of anyone has installed an inline resistor to the RPM #1 hookup. I don’t have a resistor installed and continue having an intermittent RPM fluctuations between approximately 1700-2200 RPMs. Above or below that range and it works g...

Re: Considering a sonex but still would like info on some sp

Can someone give some clarification please? GraemeSmith stated: AeroVee Turbo allows a factory approved gross weight of 1,200lb Up from 1,100 of the non-turbo. MichaelFarley56 stated: In most cases, a nicely equipped Sonex will end up weighing around 700 lbs which gives you a useful load of around ...

Re: Considering a sonex but still would like info on some sp

Avionics choices will be one choice of many in terms of the final empty weight of your airplane, and as Lou pointed out, in todays world of modern avionics and integrated EFIS systems, the weight in avionics really doesn't need to be all that much and still have a fully functional avionics suite. Th...

Re: pre-heat to hot?

I agree with Graeme; 500 degrees will be hot enough to soften or possibly melt the fiberglass or at the very least, burn up the paint on the cowling. That's pretty darn hot and I personally wouldn't use that much heat. I tend to favor warm air and longer durations of preheat. Remember, you just want...

Re: Aerovee Overhaul Guide?

I don't think there really is any specific tear down or maintenance instructions other than the build manual as Bryan pointed out. What's the story on the engine? Has it been sitting for a while and you want to check it over? As the owner you will basically be able to do anything you want in terms o...

Re: Dreamer

Welcome to the group! We're glad to have you here and hope we can answer your questions as you think of them. One of the reasons I was so interested in the Sonex line of airplanes was the value of the design. 10 years ago when I first flew my Waiex, I had it flying for less than $30,000 American dol...

Re: airventure 2021

I read the update this week that included: - Masks will be recommended/required if social distancing can't be accomplished - Vaccine's won't be required - International visitation will depend on the requirements at that time - Monday night concert (and other events with high foot traffic) won't happ...
