Hey, congrats on the first start! That looks great! Looks a little cold there too...

Question for you...I noticed you have a crush plate on the front of your prop...do you have some kind of spinner planned? Are you going to use the stock Sonex part?

Cool...! A GoPro first engine start view. Pretty original!

Funny how people get really happy on "first start" day...

You guys don't miss anything!
The crush plate came with the engine and prop. I do have a Sonex hub I will use. The prop is from a Zenith 601 and isn't pitched right for the speedie Sonex. I've ordered a Prince and will sell the other prop when I get it.
The weather was a bit cool, but nice for Colorado in the winter, 42F. I used a space heater in the garage to get the engine up to 65F before I fired it off.
You'll notice once I switched on the mags, it fired right off. That was from the fuel I had in the carb while testing for leaks. I forgot I had shut off the fuel valve so it starved immediately. You can almost see my thought process, Hmmmm, what is it? Oh yeah, idiot, fuel valve.
After the video we got it to idle real smooth at about 6oo RPM for several minutes. Oil temp never came up, so that I will have to trouble shoot.

It was much quieter than I expected. Of course, I didn't get it much above idle.
Its no louder than my C150 (O200) was or the Gobash (Rotax 912) I fly now. And both of those have mufflers.

Amazing Kip...you really created a masterpiece! My hope has always been to park my Waiex next to yours at Oshkosh but after seeing your plane I would probably embarrass myself if I did. :?

Is that a Dragonfly in your hangar? Looks like fun 8-)

One more quick question...how did you make up your tail pushrod fairings for the ruddervator pushrods and rudder cables? That's next on my list...

Thank you for taking the time to post the videos and keep them coming!! :D
