Bryan, yes. You can use it. It only affects new sales and imports from what I can tell. They are still legal to use.

Thanks Robbie - to your two year old answer. So is this still true? One of my other flying buddies was saying that I may not pass my airworthiness inspection.

I would think you would not be allowed to put a old ELT in a newly certified aircraft. Just my 2 cents and worth every penny.

I’m not a lawyer, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so take this for what it is worth. Not much.

That’s a very vague ruling. Clearly a certified aircraft or import cannot have one installed. As for us, I’d suggest calling EAA and asking. Depending in who is doing your inspection, you could also ask them.

I went with the DuPage FSDO and the gentleman who did my inspection was very good about questions prior to and afterwards. The last thing you need is for it to be the cause of you having to redo work.
