Lots of detail work on wire support etc. I also made a cover for my battery positive terminal.
velcro open.jpg

It is a piece of rubber with velcro stitched on either side and a hole for the cable.

Above it you can see I've covered the master switch terminals with rubber also. When I was installing my EGT cables I touched one to the hot terminal of the master switch. Once was enough.

I'm borrowing Josh's idea on interior lights. I wired them up temporarily and will see how it works with my panel tonight.

They do work fine in the daylight.

That was pretty much a bust for my Bräuniger Alpha MFD. I'm going to print up some post lights and may also try to gut a Harbor Freight tactical flashlight to make a homebrew light similar to the lights in the antiques I used to fly. Would like to hear more interior lighting ideas.

The red LED headlamp worked great. Not sure it would be good for the traffic scan though.

Please enlighten me about the big yellow EGT & CHT mounts. Why so bulky?

Darick,
They are the type K disconnects I had in my collection. This way if I need to replace a thermocouple I put the connector on the end and plug it back in. No way do I want to be running wires through the firewall again.

Hi Brian

I was thinking to use these, but the ones you are testing look like they shine the light to the side or maybe even down? Is this to get indirect lighting through the cockpit?

Gordon,
I was using these ones specifically:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... tion/1685/

I installed them like Josh did, and they do give a nice indirect light. My MFD is a black and white LCD with no backlight. I can't read it very well with the indirect light.

I used an LED light strip like this: https://www.steinair.com/product/led-st ... green-3ft/
With this dimmer switch: https://www.steinair.com/product/led-light-dimmer/

I think you could probably make a dimmer like that yourself for cheaper but I just wanted a plug and play thing. Anyway I put the light strip on the underside of the glareshield. It looks like this, although much less bright than what this photo makes it appear. I was thinking about adding more in the foot well or behind my head for ambient light but I think this is plenty of light. My assistant likes it, anyway.

If you don't have an overhanging edge on your glareshield like that maybe you could run a strip along the bottom side of the panel, or even on the back of the panel right at the bottom edge? That would probably give some nice ambient lighting but it wouldn't light up all your switches and stuff so I'm not sure how useful that would be...

Chris,
This is my MFD:
Image

I sat in the airplane in the dark, and tried many orientations of a red LED. Nothing from the top or side made it legible. So, I'm not sure that setup would work.

I'm curious why you went with green instead of red.

I got my dimmer from ACS for about $25. It's about $36 now.
