Viking Engine

Other VW (Revmaster, Great Plains, Hummel), Corvair, Viking, etc. ****THESE ENGINES ARE NOT FACTORY APPROVED.****

Funny!

Postby rizzz » Wed Nov 07, 2012 12:41 am

This is hilarious.

Here Jan proposes to shut up about the Sonex/Viking after complaints from users on his forum, as people feel it's turning into a Sonex discussion rather than a Viking discussion so the conversation gets moved to the sonextalk forum:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Vikingair ... ssage/2682

Not long after Sonex kicks the discussion back off their own forum as well as they feel it's too much of a Viking discussion on their forum:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sonextalk/message/74018

Seems there is no place for a Viking/Sonex discussion.

'Cept here. :D. Probably why Sonex won't recognize this forum.Speaking of which I tried to convince the new Revmaster forum over at yukhoo to move it to a forum like this while it was still early days and he said he was perfectly happy with Yahoo.Go figure :? In 5 years he will have a jumbled mess where it takes forever to find any information you need and twice as long to locate a picture someone wants you to see because of course they never think to supply a link to it,just like every other yukoo group.Argh :x

I saw your attempt on the RevMaster groups Mike, good effort.
I just do not understand how people can't see the yahoo groups are just so far behind any other forum platform out there, it's not funny...
Me not understand...

It seems the RV builders are the only ones who got the message, maybe the average RV builder has a little more computer savvy than the other airplane builders out there.
Apart from an elite group of Sonex builders known as "the members of Sonexbuilders.net" off course :-)

Sorry to chime in on this old thread, but I was over there with you Mike, asking Pat to consider something other than a Yahoo forum. And, FWIW, the situation is the same in the Thatcher CX4 community: One of the CX4 guys has set up a very nice board (http://www.cx4community.com, but Dave Thatcher and (apparently) a majority of the builders want to stick with the malodorous Yahoo Groups thing. Where you can't post linked pictures and the pictures there are a jumble. Where the threads are a mess. Where each post must be individually opened. I sure don't understand it.

Re: Viking Engine: From a technical standpoint it looks promising. It's the other aspects which make many people wary.

The Revmaster forum is basically dead in the water. This from the first post ---from Pat Panzera
Welcome to the new Revmaster discussion group.
Revmaster Aviation is in the process of taking their connection with current and
future Revmaster users to the next level. Questions and answers, announcements,
progress reports, can be easily addressed in this forum.

My part in this is merely as a facilitator. The plan is for Joe Horvath and
Ralph Maloof to participate in a regular basis. '

There have been numerous questions asked and if Mr. Horvath had taken any interest and answered some of them I am sure it would have taken off.
Maybe it's still early days but the fact remains Yahoo forums platform stinks, and why some people not only defend but prefer it is a mystery :?:

Could not agree more!

You gave me an idea though,
I've just bought the domain "vwaircraftengines.com", I might use it to set up a common forum (phpBB or vBulletin) for VW aircraft engine discussion, AeroVee, RevMaster, Hummel and others.

I would love to see a useful forum on VW engines that wasn't a yahoo mess but you must be aware that their is already a yahoo group doing that . http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VW_Conversions/
It claims 800+ members(yeah right!) and if you could convince even 50 active to occasional users to switch I think you could make a go of it.
You could certainly count me in.

Thanks Mike,

Yes, I am aware and am a member of the "VW_Conversions" yahoo group,
I am also a member of the "AirVW" yahoo group, the "AirVW-Eng-Builders" yahoo group, the "EFI_VW" yahoo group, the "RevMaster" yahoo group and the "AeroVee" yahoo group.

All of these forums share the same or at least related topics, but also share a serious deficiency, i.e. they are YAHOO groups and thus they are pretty useless for categorizing and searching information, sharing pictures, sharing video's, etc.
(I agree, all this can all be done on the yahoo groups one way or another, but damn people, have you never wondered whether there might not be an easier/better way???)

Anyway, reason enough to give it a try!
If it's a dud, it's a dud...

This is beyond all imagination!
Building the Viking engines is my life. It is what I do.

Ben Schaefer has been bashing Viking Aircraft Engines, on the web for some time
due to his dissatisfaction of me blocking his continued attempt to post, his
opinion that we needed an installation manual, and me commenting that we were
working on it. When he wanted to post a copy of the Rotax manual, I did not let
it pass and moderated it out. He is claiming he is unable to obtain the ECU for
his aircraft (Only the latest version is not yet available), that his parts are
late and that we are not providing him with installation information. All this
when others are able to build, complete and fly their airplanes.

He is not a friend of Viking Aircraft Engines. He spends most of his time now,
trying to bash Viking, and very little time working on his airplane. If you
ever meet him, be aware he is up to no good, he is not a supporter of the
continued movement of the Viking Engine and is all around a negative influence.

Stay far away from his suggestions, do not follow his advice. With every
negative post, he is directly devaluing your investment in the Viking engine.

I have told him I will take him to court. He is now trying to use the path
through others, to convey his "message"

How should I handle this? I have decided that I will not sit in the background
and be silent. We are not perfect and are still growing and learning, but we do
not deserve this.

Jan

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Vikingair ... ssage/3511

(Obviously, as Jan mentions in his own post, he does not allow this customer to respond and defend himself as he is blocking his posts)

Jan has no clue about running a business does he?
How in the world can this man think it is a good thing for his business to do something like this?
If I were a potential customer and I read this, does he really think that the fact that he openly treats one of his customers like this will positively influence my decision to buy a Viking engine?
A supplier publicly naming, humiliating and threatening to take one of his customers to court for criticizing (rightly or wrongly) the product, that’s the world’s best deterrent in my view.
