Too cool 8-) If it weren't for the 12 gph fuel burn I'd want one of these on the front of my Onex
http://youtu.be/Yle0bNfmf0E This is Scott Ehni's custom Zenith CH701 airplane (that he scratch-built from plans) powered by the lightweight Garrett JFS 100-13A Turboshaft engine, putting out at least 90 BHP at a prop speed of 3,100 rpm, burning about 12 gph. Weighs about 82 lbs The small APU will work on almost any liquid that will burn. The best off-airport fuel choice is a mix of diesel and unleaded regular gas as it burns a bit cleaner. Awesome turbine jet engine sound on the experimental aircraft!
Details on this custom engine installation: http://www.zenithair.com/misc/turbine-power.html

What you save on engine weight will be lost on extra fuel carried . Apparently they can be had for under $4000.

Be aware, sport pilots cannot fly turbine-powered aircraft, just FYI. The regs state "reciprocating engine."

And Obama has proposed a $100 fee for turbine aircraft using ATC.

That's OK. It will just force all of the usual IFR traffic to fly VFR down low where all of the Sonex pilots are. Wait, what...?

Doubtful. You think Rush Limbaugh will want his adult beverage spilled in the convective air we fly in?
