I think that he may get taller, but should stay skinny for a while. Marriage is a long way off for a 14 year old.

Tonight I built my wing spars. Step 1: move junk, motorcycles, and tractor. Unscrew box.


Step 2: remove cardboard.


Step 3: put back junk, motorcycles, and tractor.


Ok, you guys can hate me now. It seems worth it.

You think that's good? My assembly steps happened like this...

Step one. Drive to Texas. Pull wings. Load on trailer.
Step two. Drive to Georgia. Unload. Reattach wings.

You can't hang with the big dogs! :D

You do, however, have my respect and admiration. I was going to build but decided I'd rather buy. I even tested my determination by building three cars to see if I had what it takes to justify seventeen grand for a box of aluminum.

You got me beat there! That was how I got my gliders though.

I was a bit paranoid about drilling up the wing mount angles for the mounting blocks. The prebuild spars had large holes already, but they seemed like #13 rather than 3/16". So I set up the angle in the drill press. I used a #40 bit to locate the hole to the existing part, then drilled up to #13.

Seemed to come out ok. Still have to upsize everything to 3/16".

Wing attach blocks. If you use the drill before you cut method, make sure you leave ample space for the saw kerf.


Clamped in two directions per the plans, transferring pilot holes to the angle.


Here I have drilled my 1/4" holes and have started the 3/16" pilot for the wing pin hole.

Adam drilled a couple of the critical 3/16" pilot holes for the main wing bolts. Also he transferred the holes from the root blocks to the angles but I did not get that picture.

Wing tiedowns located. I am excited to see we have some AN470AD5 rivets in our future. The poor 5X gun has not run in years.
