FREE Offer for Tri-Gear Builders

Postby Andy Walker » Fri Sep 28, 2012 11:09 am

Hey all...

As you tri-gear builders know, the boot for the nosewheel pushrod is a pain in the butt. The plans specify using fiberglass thread to sew up the boot, but try finding fiberglass thread. Neither ACS nor Wick's carries it. Anyplace I could find it only sold it in several thousand yard rolls for a couple of hundred bucks. I asked Kerry what to use, he suggested safety wire. I tried that, it is not a good idea, there is not enough flex in the wire to allow the boot to move as it needs to.

I started calling supply companies, and finally found a place that sells the high temp (good to 100

Have you thought of sending sonex the excess so they can include it with their kits?

No...that's not a bad idea. But this is also a way for me to meet and interact with other builders, so I have to weight the pros and cons. :)

I went through the same process trying to find thread. Then I realized if I just pull some fiberglass cloth apart, it leaves long threads which I just twisted together to get enough to stitch my boot. Its really not about strength, but a material that is fire resistant.

Yeah, but you will only meet us nose draggers. Not that there's anything wrong with us!
