Welcome to the club. I too am a recent purchaser of plans. I am using www.sonex1604.wordpress.com to publish my build online. It is a free blog site and easy to use with a smartphone. I am also using the spreadsheets from the yahootalk site to track the build of each part and help with which parts to build based on material I have. I did not order all the material at once. Bought most of the material to build the tail. If the tail needed a 2.5 x 2.5 x3/16" angle I bought all the angle for the plane. The only metal I have not bought so far to finish the tail is the 0.025" sheet, and that is because I can not get it locally and will have to order it online.

Are you scratch building or waiting on a kit to arrive?

Best of luck

I am liking the spreadsheets and the web pages, I may do both like some of you did. I appreciate all of the insight. I will be building using the sub kits. I bought the plans so I could study them before I started cutting into expensive metal. I also knew I wanted to go to the workshop, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to get familiar with the plans before going up to Oshkosh.

I think I know where you can find some scrap pieces to practice with. :)

Thanks in advance!

Check out this excel spread sheet.
I found it on Sonex Talk. The author did a great job detailing each step on each page. Just put in the time you spent on each step. I passed my DAR inspection with it. Haven't gone before the FAA go get my repairman's certificate yet, but I hope it will be sufficient to prove I built the plane.

I am in the process of collecting tools for the build. I have managed to scrape together a good amount of used tools that Sonex recommends. Are there any invaluable tools anyone might suggest? I am planning on buying my tail kit in June, so I have plenty of time, just curious.

Thanks!

Strap duplicators. But you knew I'd say that....

I just recently bought a 90 angle drill motor. I ran into several places on the fuselage where my palm drill wouldn't fit. You can get angle drill adapters for a palm drill if you don't want to buy a separate drill motor. The angle drills are fairly expensive, but have saved me a lot of hassle. Here's a link to the kit I bought from Northern Tool : http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200451730
